Introducing the Sisters of Mercy
of the Americas - West Midwest Community
The Sisters of Mercy from
California to Michigan have formed a new community.
On July 1, 2008, the Mercy
regional communities of Auburn, California; Burlingame,
California; Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Chicago, Illinois; Detroit,
Michigan; and Omaha, Nebraska joined together to become the Sisters
of Mercy of the Americas – West Midwest Community.
The new Community includes
almost 900 Sisters of Mercy and more than 500 Mercy Associates
and Companions in Mercy. We continue to be part of the
Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, an
international community of Roman Catholic women vowed to serve
people who suffer from poverty, sickness and lack of
education, with a special concern for women and
children.
While our primary
administrative site for the community is in Omaha, Nebraska,
we will continue to live and maintain an active presence in
our local areas, serving in 32 states and four countries. The
sisters you know and the ministries you care about will
continue to evolve in response to need and opportunity as they
have in the past.
With the caring support of
people like you, we have continued to share mercy, bringing
light and life where there was little or none. Our name has
changed but our mission remains the same. We thank you for
your continued support.
